Westie Dogs Please Consider Adopting An Older West Highland Terrier

Posted by Snoop Dog | Cat and Dog | Saturday 23 August 2008 1:14 pm

Everybody loves a baby animal and Westie puppies are adorable, but new dog purchasers often do not realize the commitment they are making when they bring a puppy home. For those want the companionship of Westies dogs, but do not have the knowledge or patience to endure the training process, rescuing an older Westie dog may be the right alternative.

When considering an older West highland terrier dog, the first thing that many people think is that they would be getting a dog with problems, either genetic problems common to Westies, or behavioral problems from improper training. The truth is, many Westie dogs go to shelters for reasons that have nothing to do with the dogs’ inherent qualities. Every year, dog owners die, move to retirement homes, change jobs, get divorced, have new babies, or, unfortunately, simply tire of the responsibility of caring for a dog.

The advantages of older dogs are many. They have already finished teething, and no longer feel the urge to chew holes in your shoes, rugs, and furniture. Westie dogs that are older have grown used to sleeping through the night while their people sleep, as opposed to westie puppies, who wake up and whine. Older pets will have already been housetrained and also should know the meaning of the word ‘no,’ making their continued training that much easier.

When you encounter a Westie puppy, you only have the breed standards to give you an idea of what kind of dog it will grow into. Although Westhighland dogs have a typical personality type, there are variations from dog to dog. The full-grown Westie is a know quantity. The Westie dog you meet is what you will get, and you can quickly determine if it will fit into your home.

It may seem like rescuing an older Westie provides you with an ‘instant dog,’ but that is not the case. At first they might become confused, upon arriving at a new home, and need to be reminded of their basic training. However, even allowing a few weeks of extra special care is easier and less stressful than the rigors of training a puppy.

Trailering Your Horses Safely!

Posted by Snoop Dog | Cat and Dog | Saturday 23 August 2008 9:15 am

Theres a horse show across the state in a few weeks, and youre planning on being there with your horses. However, its been awhile since you last pulled a horse trailer, and youre a little concerned about your trailering skills. After all, you want to arrive at your destination safely, with the horses as calm and relaxed as possible.

Guiding a loaded horse trailer down a country road or highway requires practical experience and know-how. Theres very little room for error. What do you do to ensure a safe, uneventful journey?

How to Ensure Safe Trailering

If youre out of practice, or if youve never towed a trailer before, obtaining adequate personal experience prior to the actual event is of the utmost importance. Just as if you were learning to drive for the first time, you should begin by practicing basic driving skills before getting out in traffic with the trailer.

The more experienced you become, the more prepared you will be for anything that may potentially happen. With more confidence and a higher level of awareness and preparedness, you should be better able to handle any unexpected situation that comes along.

Find a level field or a parking lot in which to practice. Mark your course with several highway cones, then, set out to work on the following driving skills:

  • Turning with your trailer.
  • Backing your trailer.
  • Parking your trailer on a grade.
  • Stopping the trailer rig suddenly.
  • Ready for the Highway

After youve practiced all the basic driving skills while pulling your horse trailer and you feel confident in your ability to handle the rig safely, youre ready to test your skills out on the road.

Try towing your trailer for short distances, at first. Make sure that you feel comfortable with turning corners in traffic, with backing your trailer, with parking on a grade, and with being able to stop your trailer quickly (should the need arise). Once you are confident in your towing abilities, youre ready to travel any distance with your horses.

Just remember to always be alert when out on the roads. Drive defensively and be prepared for any possible situation.

Stop Don’t Feed Your Puppy That

Posted by Snoop Dog | Cat and Dog | Saturday 23 August 2008 1:14 am

Sam just loves these chocolate chip cookies, the puppys owner said with pride.

Well, you wont have Sammy for long feeding him those cookies, shot back Sams trainer. You need to stop-dont feed your puppy that food.

How many of us out of love and affection feed our puppies all types of food to their detriment. We say we love our pets but we send them to an early grave by the things we feed them.

Its true, puppies need to be fed more times a day than grown dogs. Four times a day is not unheard of. Consistency is the name of the game though.

As a matter of fact, being consistent with feeding your puppy helps you. If you feed him regularly hell give you a regular bowel movement. That all helps with potty training.

Keep the children away from Sam when hes eating. Give the fella some space. Do you like people crowding around you when you eat? And remember, if his feeding area is on one side of the room, put his litter area on the opposite side. How often do you eat your food in the bathroom?

Honestly, the crap they call dog food today is shameful. Dont waste your money. Dont feed your puppy that slop. One size fits all just doesnt cut it with dog food. Just think about this. A growing puppy has different nutritional needs than a full grown dog.

Let me explain it like this. I have a rapidly growing 18 year old son. Our food bill for him is going to put us in the poor house before long. My wife keeps telling me hes a growing boy.

I wonder, does he really have to eat so much. Those who can relate to what I am saying just give me a nudge with your computer. Yeah! Thanks!

The comical thing is this. He doesnt carry a bit of fat. Hes incredibly trim and agile. On the other hand, when I just look at food, my stomach seems to get bigger.

I said all that to say this. Growing puppies (my son), have different nutritional needs than the big dogs (me). (Somehow, that big dog thing made me feel good.)

So, with all of those different brands out there vying for your dollar, which one do you choose? Well, lets start with a simple answer first. Sam has to like it. Watch your puppy for signs of stomach gas, flatulence, and regurgitations.

Is Sam from the energetic breed of dogs? Dont feed Sam high fat foods if he sleeps all day. And remember, presentation may mean a whole lot to your plate, but it doesnt mean much to his plate. More than likely Sam doesnt see all the color anyway. He uses smell and taste.

Just a parting shot. When Sam eats? Dont touch his food. Hell bite you whoever you are. Instincts tend to take over. He will bite the hand that feeds him, trust me.

    Heres a nice DOG Tip:

I started this article talking about people feeding their puppy food that they eat. Should they?

Well, I suppose the answer is yes and no. Dont feed Sam the high fat, high sugar foods. Do not under any circumstances feed your dog chocolate. You could kill him out right. Also, dont feed him onions, grapes and raisins.

You can feed him vegetables, pasta, rice, and some fruits. All in moderation. I know youre thinking about a bone, is that okay. Wellyou be the judge of that.

Cooked bones splinter. Raw bones crack. Splinters may cause damage to Sams stomach. Watch your puppy, know your puppy. Educate yourself all the time for your puppys sake.

Wycliffe Williams has always had animals in his family. One particular puppy Herman was especially dear to him as a child. Do you know what you can and cannot feed your puppy? Puppy And Dog Training Secrets Finally Revealed

Posted by Snoop Dog | Cat and Dog | Friday 22 August 2008 9:14 pm

There is a puppy and dog lovers book that is destined for stardom. It is written in a very practical way. Its so easy to understand and to implement the instructions.

This book was written out of love for puppy and dog lovers. The practical tips and tricks explained will help anyone with puppy and dog challenges.

Puppy And Dog Training Secrets takes training to another level. In order to ensure the success of you and your pet, the author even throws in a set of videos to help the both of you achieve victory.

    Obedience

This is the biggie with any animal youre going to train. Puppy And Dog Training Secrets certainly places obedience at the top of the agenda. But the breed and temperament is also taken into consideration.

For instance, bulldog or Rottweiler type breeds are generally guard dogs. However, Collies are used to herding. They love wide open spaces, enjoy running and have oodles of energy.

Your approach may have to be tweaked a bit when training the different breeds. Puppy And Dog Training Secrets take this into consideration.

Obedience is not shoved down the animals throat, but rather is incorporated into the things that are done daily. Puppy and dog lovers know that training must be consistent. It also involves diligent and sometimes hard work. But in the end, it is very rewarding.

    House Training

Break that puppy early. House training can turn into a lengthy procedure. But it doesnt have to be. Puppy And Dog Training Secrets advocates seeking an early breakthrough in this area.

They give you proven methods and techniques to help you achieve that sought after early breakthrough. If your puppy or dog presents a challenge, they have prepared well for that also.

    Commands

Puppy And Dog Training Secrets will give you strategies on getting your pet to obey you the first time, every time. Their method at getting your pet to obey the toilet command is a sure one. Have you ever seen your puppy so excited to see you that he wets himself? Or he wets even you? Puppy And Dog Training Secrets addresses that also.

    Conclusion

Puppy And Dog Training Secrets assures you of a well trained puppy or dog. For me, their techniques took time. I did finally get the results I wanted. I was happy with that.

I like the way the author encourages the pet owner to be sensitive toward their pet. Trust building is encouraged throughout. Yes, Puppy And Dog Training Secrets is a wonderful book to have if you are a puppy and dog lover.

Here is my DOG tip for the day. You remember (Dog Owners Guide) DOG:

When friends or relatives come over for a visit, no matter how friendly your pet is, put him away. Something as simple as a hug from an adult relative can spark a pet to protect a child. Even if your pet is good with children, the best you can say is he is good with your children. Dont take the chance. Put him away.

Wycliffe Williams has always had animals in his family. One particular puppy Herman was especially dear to him as a child. Do you have a puppy? Are you feeling controlled by your puppy? Do you want to be informed about your puppy? Empower yourself now! Puppy And Dog Training Secrets will give you excellent training techniques. To get them click here.

    Which Animals Do You Like?

Posted by Snoop Dog | Cat and Dog | Friday 22 August 2008 1:15 pm

Its well known that one can make quite true conclusion about a person, looking at his pet. But few of us know that well-marked antipathy for some or other kind of domestic animals also means a lot. We offer your attention a short manual on psychology of admirers and opponents of different kinds of domestic animals.

    Cat

    Who and why likes

Cat is a symbol of feminity and independence. A woman always imagines herself as such a mysterious, graceful, languorous, downy and slightly predatory cat. A cat is an alter ego of an owner, so if one dislikes a cat, he also dislikes her owner herself. Ladies, who combine advantages of both sexes harmoniously, usually get cats. Such women are beautiful and intelligent, feminine and efficient, sweet and persistent in gaining her goal. Spinster replaces her non-existent baby by a cat. Cat also needs care and tenderness, shes playful and naughty, like a child. A lonely woman with a cat treats men distrustfully, and enters into intimate relationships unwillingly. Children like cats, because cats resemble a mothers image, stamped in our genetic memory, warm, soft and purrs blandly. A man that likes cats accepts a womans right to be independent. As for bachelor, who got a cat, he is all-sufficient and will hardly ever marry, as he already has a girl-friend.

    Who doesnt like

Hatred against cats means antipathy to the whole female sex. Theres even such term cat-phobia. Cool big men, who battle desperately with their hidden homosexual tendencies, suffer from it. He should love women, but they dont rouse him, so he lives with some lady immoderately and chokes with horror while seeing her little cat, it reminds him of the fact that hes not a man enough. As soon as he passes through appropriate psychotherapeutic treatment and realizes his real fears, his fear of cats disappears. And then he begins to suffer from his homosexuality, but this is quite another story already. If a woman hates cats, this means she denies her female essence and is afraid to show her independence.

    Dog

    Who and why likes

For woman, her dog is almost always a symbol of a man. Even if a dog is of female sex. Looking at a dogs breed, you can always tell which male advantages an owner values most of all. A large sheep dog says that an owner needs a defender and reliable support. A woman, who bought a French bulldog, values devotion, trustworthiness, constancy and sense of humor in her partner. A lady with Doberman has strong will-power and challenges men: Who of you can protect me better, than he does? A lady with a biting, cowardly and malicious, like a demon, creature in her hands makes great demands of men, searching for unreal advantages in them, and thus, shes seldom happy in marriage.

A man always identifies himself with his dog. Thats why a peaceful accountant, walking with a bull terrier, is always aggressive in his soul. A man, who likes long-haired collie, is sentimental, vulnerable, but being in a critical situation, hes courageous and ready to protect his flock to the uttermost (by the way, the latest phrase concerns all sheep dogs-fanciers too). The one, who bought a rottweiler, has a sharp character, prefers loneliness and tames difficultly. Almost all dog-fanciers, regardless of their sex, are intolerant to other peoples independence and strive to control life and actions of close people. A child searches for a friend and defender in a dog. An obstinate striving of a child to have a puppy says about his inner loneliness or fear of life and only sometimes about his wish to get a merry companion for games. It wont be enough just to buy him a puppy, you should also present your baby communication, protection or entertainments.

    Who doesnt like

Not malicious and cruel people hate dogs, as people sometimes consider. The one, who doesnt bear dogs, either is too timid and afraid of these biting and loudly barking predators, or prefers to search for love and friendship in the world of people and doesnt understand why he should get a little wolf to himself. Many people sicken the necessity to break other living creature, to become a leader of a troop, dont want to turn to be a slave of a domestic animal, as some owners readily do, so they refuse to get a dog at home flatly.

    Hamster and guinea-pig

    Who and why likes

Those, who love all small and fluffy, need a strong mans protection, tenderness, care and feel small and helpless. Thats why children ask for hamsters so often, they want to be big, strong and careful for little animals.

    Who doesnt like

If a person cannot stand other peoples stupidity, hell hardly ever be touched while seeing a hamster or guinea-pig.

    Rat

    Who and why likes

A domestic rat is intelligent, white and fluffy. Loving a rat is the same as declaring to the whole world: Im not a bore, I have original thought, and your stereotypes have no power over me!. The one, who likes rats, will learn everything firstly, touch and check, and only then make his conclusion, and he doesnt care for other peoples opinion. If a child brought a rat at home, this means he has rather sociable, curious and kind-hearted character.

    Who doesnt like

Conservative, cautious people, keeping to beaten tracks in life, and also shy, diffident people cannot stand white rats.

    Parrot

    Who and why likes

Melancholic, vulnerable and very naпve persons, boring in silence and loneliness, buy noisy and theoretically long-living parrot. They dont even suspect of lots of troubles, which these delicate little birds, aiming constantly at dying of pneumonia, can give to their owner. Parrot reminds romantics of tropical islands, pirates and compensates for a deficiency in traveling in everyday life. Pensioners epidemic infatuation for parrots is a forced event and doesnt have any psychological hidden motive: many old people would like to get a dog, but they dont have enough forces to walk with it.

    Who doesnt like

Irritable, quick-tempered or burdened with some serious stressed work people. Such man cannot value the whole humor of the situation, when a small bird swoops on his head and gets tangled in his hair. Sybarites, who value peace and harmony, have no special liking of stridently chirping parrots.

    Hedgehog

    Who and why likes

Hedgehog is spiny, but has a soft and delicate belly. Hedgehog-owners are harsh in appearance, and vulnerable in soul. They think they should be harsh among people, respond with a proactive blow to any semblance of attack, and later they suffer that they offended innocent people. They are not able to betray, they are often straightforward. Women often choose hedgehogs, life makes them to be cutting, and in a hedgehog such woman likes herself, so vulnerable under thorns. And some are delighted with a hedgehogs ability to roll itself into a thorny ball and wait through troubles. And such person, regardless of his age and sex, needs a defender.

    Who doesnt like

The one, who slipped his foot in a slipper in the morning and understood, where this night animal decided to fall asleep.

    Fishes

    Who and why likes

Two categories of people prefer silent fishes. The first one includes active, emotional, spirited people; they calm down looking at slow motions of some fish. For them, aquarium with fishes is just a detail of interior, like a TV-set. The second one includes original and somewhat eccentric thinkers. These people like cold-blooded fishes for their dissimilitude on people and, contemplating underwater world, escape from reality. They are quite aggressive and watch calmly how such beautiful creatures devour each other or eat their own spawn.

    Who doesnt like

Individual extremely sensitive people, who cannot stand aggression in any form.

    Tortoise

    Who and why likes

An embodiment of reliability and complete peace, not in vain, according to Chinese mythology, the Earth is resting on a gigantic tortoises shell. Connoisseurs of comfort and stability, with delicate soul organization, buy tortoise. A tortoise will never replace neither husband, nor friend. If a tortoise lives in a house of a lonely woman or man, this means they are striving for love, open to proposals and ready for long and stable relationships.

    Who doesnt like

A slow-moving tortoise irritates impetuous, sociable, talkative people, needing listeners and concentrated on their own problems.

Well, if you have no one, and dont want to?! If you, so adult and independent, have no home pets and youre absolutely indifferent to them, then this may mean the following:

    1. Youve got someone to take care and be in command of. You have enough close people, ready to support and protect you, all reserves of your feelings are busy, and you have no necessity to pour out on something fluffy or feathery. 2. You dont get tired of communication with people, get into contact with them easily and in situations when someone buys a lap-dog or parrot, you find a new friend or call your daughter. 3. You dont want to take responsibility for another living creature at all. You should cope with your own life first somehow. 4. You dont want to depend on somebody. 5. You understand instinctively: only a man can give you things, which you need, and your whole essence is indignant with a possibility to replace a son by a kitten, a husband by a dog, a soul comfort by an aquarium with fishes. 6. You dont like animals and they are absolutely uninteresting for you. And you shouldnt be ashamed of this fact: a myth saying that only malicious egoists dont like animals has no real reasons. Quite opposite, sometimes contempt and hatred to mankind are hidden behind an exaggerated passion for animals. Bridget Bardo is a typical example. Shes devoid of maternal instinct, cannot stand her own adult son, stick to profascist views and at the same time urges us not to wear fur coats.

As a rule, we choose home pets for ourselves, following 3 motives subconsciously. This animal is a spitting image of myself! Ah, how I wish to behave like this! Allow myself all these escapades and no one will punish me! God, I miss a creature with all advantages of this fascinating being near myself so much!

Whos an owner of our common pet?

Even in the biggest family an idea of buying a dog or rat occurs to some one person, and all others agree with another persons idea gladly or reluctantly. The one, who offered, is an owner of a pet, and these are his features of character, that are reflected in a choice of an animal.

    Chinese Shar Pei Character

Posted by Snoop Dog | Cat and Dog | Friday 22 August 2008 9:15 am

If you have never seen a Shar Pei before, the first impression might just as well be that of a kind, though independent, even arrogant clodhopper. Indeed, these dogs are often arrogant with strangers. And of course, this makes people think that Shar Pei is smarter than it looks. But under the mask of arrogance and indifference hides a mischievous soul of a natural-born clown. It is in domestic surroundings that these dogs reveal their true character, their numerous faces and aspects of mood. Each of them is truly individual and a great wonder to discover. This is what makes Shar Pei so capable of true and loyal friendship unlike many other pets.

Talking about the character of these teddy bears, first and foremost they are calm, independent and devoted to the family. Moreover, these dogs are very enduring, noble and wise. Shar Pei truly enjoys human company, especially children they can play with them for hours and stand any liberties the children might take. Shar Pei is extremely patient and discreet. They are never aggressive without an obvious cause.

These reflexive animals should be given an opportunity to assess the situation and use their own discretion when it comes to action. Amazingly sharp sight allows keeping everything under control at all times. Although historically these dogs were meant for protecting property, Shar Pei is no worse a bodyguard than Mastiff. These energetic and fast-running dogs have more than fair chances of protecting human life against any potential threat.

We have been breeding and exhibiting Chinese Shar-Pei since 1994, finishing more than 20 FCI championships , with 3 Best in Show Winners along the way.
